EVERYONE always is concerned about what clothing they should wear as a family to their session. Some are still thinking in the "everyone-in-white-shirts" (or black) mind set, some want to wear matching sweaters. My response is always the same….matching attire, especially the white shirt thing, is now very out of fashion in family portraiture. What IS in fashion is eclectic clothing that flows together…same sort of style,  and colors that flow together, and patterns that are understated but unified. Layers. Colors that make the eyes pop. Textures. And above all, something that is comfy and…CASUAL!

Enter the DeLuca family. Now THIS is what I’m talking about….stylish, casual, unified but yet individualized, and oh-so-cool!

This family was one of my last summer sessions….sigh. Although the fall is gorgeous for picture-taking, there’s just something about barefooted kids playing in my yard that makes me love getting my camera out. And these kiddos were such happy & cooperative subjects that I just KNEW these images were gonna make me smile…and they do!

This is Jake, Madison, and Jonah. I’ve been photographing these three since the youngest could barely walk, and let me tell you that I have always been exhausted by the end of the session, especially trying to get a shot of all of them together. Well, this year was very, very different. Our session went so smoothly and only took about 15 minutes. While I was happy that it was so easy, I was also kinda sad…I guess this means that they are growing up and oh-so-fast!

This is Jacob, who is two. He is a happy boy, and the joy of his parents. His mom was very excited to bring him to me and had big plans for decorating her family room with some great images of Jake. Imagine her dismay when her normally cheerful little boy decided that he DIDN’T want to get his picture taken that day. He kept holding his hand out to block me, saying "No pictures! No pictures!" We tried everything, but he was on to all of our tricks. Eventually, though, time was on our side, and he gradually quit dodging me…and I was able to get enough good images that Jenn will have three big prints over her sofa after all!
